The Democratic Club of NW Volusia County, Meeting Minutes, Oct 22nd , 2009

Call to Order:               The meeting was held in the community room of the DeLand Police Station on Howry Ave., and was called to order by President Steve Oxier, at 7:20 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the minutes of the August meeting were read. The  minutes were then  motioned to be approved, seconded and  approved unanimously by the club.

 

Speakers:           
Barbara Herrin and Greg Gimbert presented the case for the Florida Hometown Democracy initiative.

President's Report:          Steve Oxier stated that the health care resolution which was passed at the
August meeting was faxed and emailed to members of Congress.

Vice President's report:      Jeff Sheperd discussed  the club rummage sale for this Saturday, October 24th from
8a-3p. m.   Any items not sold would be donated to the local Habitat for Humanity.

 

Treasurer's Report:         Was distributed, motioned  to be approved, seconded,  and  unanimously approved by the club, with a total income of 1,300.60, and a total liability & equity of 5,240.38, as of  09/23/09.

 

Old Business:          None.

New Business:          State Democratic Conference was held last month and several of our members attended:
Delegates from NW Club:
Jeff Shepherd, Hilliary Mites, Marshall Hoerl, Steve Oxier, Michelle McCoy, Paul Nehrig,  and Judy Craig

Steve Oxier asked Judy Craig to recount her experiences at the conference.

Steve Oxier discussed a private meeting he had with Senator Bill Nelson where he asked the Senator to support a public option and the Senator indicated that he did in fact support a public option  now that his concerns about seniors had been  rectified.

Regarding Recertification of the Club:
Steve Oxier presented the amendment to the bylaws. After a brief discussion, a  motion was made and seconded to
approve and the amendment to the club’s bylaws was approved  unanimously by the club.  Steve Oxier said he would now submit the completed  package to the recertification committee for approval.

 

There being no further business or an announcement, the meeting was adjourned.
